This summer they have had to rebuild after the exits of Tosin Adarabioyo, Joao Palhinha and veteran defender Tim Ream. Marco Silva has brought in some exciting talent, with Ryan Sessegnon returning and Emile Smith Rowe joining from Arsenal.

And while Harry Maguire remains a fitness doubt, former Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui could be called into action in the back four.

In attack, Joshua Zirkzee should feature in the absence of injury stricken Rasmus Hojlund, with either Jadon Sancho or captain Bruno Fernandes deployed as a false nine.

Fellow new signing Jorge Cuenca may not get the nod in the XI, so Issa Diop and Calvin Bassey are likely to form the central defensive pair at Old Trafford.

That tune-up match could be an inspiring result for United against the four-time Premier League champs.

Fulham finished 13th in the Premier League standings last season with a 13-8-17 record and 47 points. They enter as an underdog to Manchester United (-180) looking to build on a sound defensive formula last season that tied for seventh-best in the league with 61 goals allowed.

The Red Devils kick off the 2024/25 campaign at Old Trafford, where Erik ten Hag will be under pressure to improve results after receiving significant backing this summer.

Marco Silva’s side, however, won at the Theatre of Dreams last season and have little reason to fear as they look to make a statement of their own on the opening day.

Losing Portuguese international João Palhinha to Bayern will hurt, but bringing former favorite Ryan Sessegnon back into the fray should give the Cottagers a lift.

In his pre-match press conference, ten Hag has said that his team are "not ready" for he start of the season, which isn't exactly the reassurance his board probably wanted to here. But whether that's true or is just mind games will be seen later today on the pitch.
